Overview

If you had a stereotypical British school experience, you’ll remember the Christingle: shoving cocktail sticks into an orange and then decorating them with nuts and dried fruit and a flaming candle. That’s what the taste notes of this coffee remind us of (and trying not to stab/burn ourselves in the days before health and safety was a thing). A washed single origin coffee from Colombia, this is a slightly less hazardous way to invoke the season, but with all the nutty, citrusy, fruity flavours intact.

Sustainability

The Las Gaviotas project is a tribute to the heritage, hard work, and the art of selecting the best coffee by the women who farm the land in Huila, Colombia. The word “Gaviotas” means “seagull” in Spanish, which is a reference to the traditional white costumes the women coffee pickers wore as they worked. The association aims to explore new ways to commercialize their coffee, intending to positively impact the community and generate higher incomes. Additionally, through their sustainable practices, they seek to mitigate the effects of climate change.

COLOMBIA

Colombia is the third biggest producer of coffee in the world, and its Coffee Cultural Landscape is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. The altitude in the west of the country, in the Andean region, and the warm weather make for perfect coffee growing conditions all year round.
