Kalingwe, Uganda

China is a relatively new player in the world of coffee production, and it’s only in the last ten years that speciality coffee has become the focus. Yunnan Province, where this coffee comes from, produces over 97% of China’s coffee. This mountainous and fertile region shares a border in the south-west of the country with Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam.

The Las Gaviotas project is a tribute to the heritage, hardwork, and the art of selecting the best coffee by the women who farm the landin Huila, Colombia. The altitude in the west of the country and the warmweather make for perfect coffee growing conditions all year round.

This coffee was grown by more than 150 outgrower contributors living near the city of Yirgacheffe. The Bette Buna farms are vertically integrated, which means they grow, process and sell their coffee directly to customers.

In Uganda, a group of 107 smallholder farms are nestled in the foothills of the might Rwenzori mountain range. The farmers here in the Kalingwe community own small plots, and are supported by importers with donations of seedlings, and community infrastructure to develop their local industry.

The altitude of the Andes combined with rich volcanic soils and tropical rainfall means that Peru has the ideal topography and climate for producing high quality Arabica coffee.
