Ngozi Province, Burundi
Grown in the Ngozi Province, Burundi, this coffee is a highlight of the Woman-led, built and owned washing station; Turihamwe Turashobora. Whose name translates to: ‘Together we can’. This is Burundis first women-owned wet mill and was started by 7 coffee farmers who put their savings together to create something new and transformative. It now involves over 2000 smallholder farmers, creating an amazing community through coffee.
The main variety grown here is Bourbon, which through careful selection is taken to the washing station. Turihamwe specialises in the fully washed process, where the pulp is mechanically removed and the green coffee is left to ferment overnight and under water to remove any mucilage. The beans are then sorted and dried on raised African beds over the course of 15 to 20 days. Resulting in a beautifully clean cup with notes of Plum, Cherry and Almond.

"Process" means the way that a coffee bean is removed from the coffee cherry. Washed coffee sees the cherry removed from the bean by washing it in water tanks before the bean is dried.
