The Fazenda Patano farm is owned by founder Wagner and daughter Mariah Ferrero. The farm is located in the Cerrado, close to the city of Patos de Minas, at 1,150 M.A.S.L and covers a total of 550 ha, being one of the largest speciality producers with over 400 varietals. All processing is done on the farm and the coffee is only hulled at the point of export. The farm also supports the local community, providing full health care for employees and working with the local schools.
Honduras: El Paraiso
Honduras is now the 5th largest coffee producer in the world. The farm Molinos de Honduras is the oldest exporter in the country, formed in 1960 by a local Honduran family. Volcafe acquired Molinos in the late 1980s.
Coffee exports are an important part of Uganda’s economy being 27% of their total exports, around 3 million bags of coffee per year. Robusta coffee makes up 90% of the country’s total production and is farmed in a radius of 300km around Lake Victoria at 1,100 – 1,400 M.A.S.L. The majority of Ugandan robusta coffee is a natural coffee, using the drying method.
