Nyamasheke Hills, Rwanda
The Nyamasheke Washing station was originally started by Ndereyimana Louis (founder) who was a coffee farmer of 500 trees before he started processing his own coffee. Thanks to coffee farming he was able to help develop his family's education, economy and social welfare. As his family carried on growing, he made the leap and decided to buy a licence and construct his own washing station to process his own coffee. Since 2017 he is now running 2 washing stations, collectively producing 4 containers (19200kg per container) per year. His company exclusively processes Red Bourbon and has plans to start introducing Yellow Bourbon in the next 4 years.
For our latest release we have a washed Red Bourbon which has been meticulously hand sorted, Floated and then de-pulped. The coffee then has a 12 hour fermentation before being fully washed and sent through grading channels. Once graded the green coffee is dried for 25 days on African drying beds and when fully dried, they are dry milled and sent to us to roast here in Nottingham! The resulting flavour of this fully washed Red Bourbon is Redcurrant, Caramel and Apple Crumble.

"Process" means the way that a coffee bean is removed from the coffee cherry. Washed coffee sees the cherry removed from the bean by washing it in water tanks before the bean is dried.
